WiMAX from Google
Major technological and telecommunications companies Intel, Comcast, Time Warner, Bright House and Google informed about providing an investment package totalling 3.2 billion dollars to joint venture established by provider Sprint Nextel and Clearwire.
The reason for such generosity investment is simple: the joint venture devoted to providing new access to the Internet using WiMAX communication networks, which is today one of the most promising technologies in the IT-industry. The cost of a new provider now estimated at 14.55 billion dollars, and after popularizing the idea of “personal Internet”, scheduled for the near couple of years, that figure could grow markedly. So Google, participating in the project, expects to significantly enhance its
position in the mobile Internet.
Worth noting that Sprint Nextel, the third largest provider of cellular communications in the United States in recent years, losing their positions, increasingly losing to leaders of the U.S. market cellular communications companies AT & T and Verizon Wireless. By making a bid for a new concept of communication, Sprint gets a chance to become the leader of the American era of 4G.
