Toshiba will introduce G40 notebooks with Cell graphics in this year

Toshiba spoke about his intention to issue mobile PCs with graphics based on the Cell processor back in 2007, then planned to use for this purpose chip SpursEngine (SE1000).

As it became known, these plans in Toshiba may exercise in this year and fans of Toshiba products can already begin store patience and finances, expecting exiting the finished product. It is expected that the first laptop with graphics subsystem based on the Cell will Qosmio G40.

We would remind you that Synergistic Processing Element (SE1000) is a half Cell - it have 4, not 8 processor cores. Nevertheless, the strength of four elements of the SPE-RISC-processor for quick mathematical calculations with a floating point also quite a lot. SE1000 equipped with embedded memory controller (Rambus XDR, 128 MB), which ensures its high throughput - 12.8 GB / sec.

This chip will be excellent to cope with the acceleration of video in MPEG 2 and H.264, until 1080p (Full-HD), which should be even more demand by users of G40, than 3D-applications
