Samsung’s New One Terabyte Hard Disk Drive has World’s Highest Recording Density with Three Disks

Samsung’s F1 drives employ a host of proprietary technologies to achieve best-in-class low power consumption, and best-in-class performance that sets a new standard for large capacity drives. Whisper-quiet operation is ensured via Samsung’s award-winning NoiseGuard?and SilentSeek?technologies, which reduce overall noise and vibration emanating from the drive. The optimized electronics and power saving modes reduce power consumption and resulting heat dissipation, making the F1 the coolest operating 1TB drive on the market. PMR recording with Samsung’s Flying on Demand (FOD) head technology ensures improved recording stability over changing temperature ranges. Samsung’s cutting edge drive offers a higher predicted reliability versus competitive drives that require five disks to achieve similar capacities.
“The new F1 Series is Samsung’s largest capacity hard drive to date and features the worlds highest recording density in a 3.5″ hard drive with three disks. The F1 Series is a prime example of Samsung’s massive engineering resources and technological expertise,” states Andy Higginbotham, Director of Hard Drive Sales and Marketing, Samsung Semiconductor. “With its one terabyte capacity, best-in-class low power consumption, and best-in-class performance, Samsung’s F1 Series offers an optimized, universal storage solution that meets computing and consumer electronics needs from single drive configurations to configurations of thousands of drives installed in enterprise applications.”
The F1 Series drive features a 334GB per-platter capacity, a 7200RPM spin speed, a 32MB cache, and up to a 1.2 million hour MTBF. The F1 Series offers high reliability for enterprise requirements and is optimized for RAID applications. It features a SATA 3Gb/s interface with NCQ and many additional SATA features. The F1 Series offers improved performance with SHOS based firmware, vibration tolerance with a rotational vibration sensor and lower power consumption with an optimized SOC.
Samsung’s SpinPoint F1 Series is currently shipping with a $399 MSRP.
