Photos and specifications of external video card ASUS XG Station

The source reports that ASUS plans to introduce an external graphics card ASUS XG Station. Generally this device was announced long ago but never came to market, and here, the French resource Matbe writes that its income in sales left to wait quite a bit.

As planned, the connection will be carried out to the PCI Express x 1 bus through ExpressCard slot. As a basic graphic accelerator ASUS chose, in the end, GeForce 8600 GT 256 MB GDDR3, which GPU runs at 540 MHz, and memory - at a frequency of 700 (1400) MHz. The interface is 128-bit.

Notably, that the XG Station will support SLI technology for two graphics cards. Interestingly, as relatively slow PCIe x1 interface will cope with such a configuration. According to ASUS, its product should provide 6.7 times higher performance than internal Intel 965GM.

Such parameters as frequency of GPU and memory, fan speed, can be managed using analog handle. XG Station will be equipped with two USB ports, S-video, D-Sub (via adapters) and DVI.

In the list of compatible laptops ASUS names only its own models: W5F, W6F, U5F, U1E, F3SA, F3SV, U6S, R1E, U3F, Lamborghini.

Prices and exact release date of the novelty still remain unknown.
