AMD plans to abandon its own CPU production already this year
Rumours about that AMD, perhaps convey their CPU production to someone from contract manufacturers, the most famous of which are TSMC, UMC and Chartered Semiconductor, went quite a long time.
The company steadfastly denied such information, but the situation has now changed, and it is possible that a formal announcement is around the corner.
Resource , virtually not mistaken in such matters, writes, with reference to industrial sources, that in the second half of this year, AMD will transfer production of CPU to TSMC. Recall, it is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has for some time produces all GPU AMD.
All the same sources said that currently the in TSMC factories tested technology for the production of SOI (silicon at the detention facility).
Outsourcing of manufacturing will allow AMD to sell part of its equipment and lower transaction costs. This should enable the company to return to profitability in the first half of 2009, and at the same time and capture 30% market share of microprocessors for the second quarter of 2009.
Officials AMD does not yet commented this news.
